As many of you know the first qualifying leg of the first ever Guy Harvey Ultimate Shark Challenge took place last weekend on the South West coast of Florida. Needless to say it was in fact a tremendous success, with the first fish ever caught in the tournament being a pregnant, est. 400#, female bull shark caught by Bucky Dennis. Hats off to him for taking the lead into the final leg! But the most important part was that Sean & Brooks Paxton, lead by Robert Heuter and Mote marine place a satellitle tracking tag in this beautiful specimen upon capture in Boca Grande. And since its release the shark has shot out 5 blips to the satellite playing connect the dots all over the coastline! Very cool to see where the shark has traveled in just a 6 day period since capture, and is a huge step forward for the sport of shark fishing (Land or Sea) due mainly too how mainstream this event is, and who names are attached within this tournament. With the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation riding shotgun along with Mote Marine labratorys top-notch teams of shark researchers, this tourney is now the benchmark for catch and release shark angling and research. The first tournament to ever have these mixed in with each other. We are looking forward to the conclusion of this precedent setting event during the last weekend in May at Mote Marine Labratory, to see whom in fact will be the champion of the ULTIMATE SHARK CHALLENGE!!!
